At 96 years old, Iris Apfel reigns as one of fashion and interior design’s most famous style icons — and she’s not slowing down anytime soon.
Over the years Iris has completed redesign work in the White House for presidents such as Kennedy and Reagan, managed a textiles firm with her late husband Carl Apfel and established her individuality through fashion.
Now, the American businesswoman has collaborated with US online retailer Grandin Road to create an electric collection of homewares and furniture titled Iris Loves Grandin Road.
The vibrant collection, which ranges from $40 to $2150, captures Iris’s unique sense of personality and style — reflected in various quotes – “I’m not a minimalist, as I’m sure you’ve noticed” – inscribed across artwork, pillows and plates.
A warm colour palette of jewel ruby and emerald tones, together with bold prints illustrated on patterned table runners are reminiscent of a Haitian painting in her own home.
“My husband used to say I look at a piece of fabric, and listen to the threads. It tells me a story. It sings me a song,” Iris said.
