To celebrate the start of the sweetest season, Simply You magazine’s annual event Colour My Life landed in Wellington for a long lunch experience shared with experts from the realms of interiors, beauty and fashion.

Modern botanicals
Yes, florals for spring is nothing groundbreaking but when you lean in closer and look at the floral details of these runway looks it’s clear these are no ordinary botanical details.
Whether it’s a sheer Victorian-style blouse with delicately embroidered blooms from Trelise Cooper or a vibrant Jane Daniels dress with a patchwork foliage print, these modern and playful florals signal new sartorial beginnings.
A key colour for spring 2019 is yellow – be it a soft buttercup or zingy lemon – mixed with other sun-soaked flavours of apple green and ocean blue.
The new nautical
Navy and white stripes have been a visual short-cut for sophistication by the sea since the early 1900s, when fashion designer Coco Chanel was so inspired by sailors’ Breton stripes she began to weave them into her own uniform for holidaying in the South of France.
Although Chanel’s endearing style will never lose its elegance, over 100 years later it does seem time for a refresh. Curate by Trelise Cooper’s baby blue and white stripe on an embossed jacquard jacket is a smart start, as is the mainline’s striped trouser that introduces the colour of sand and sunsets as well as the ocean.
Mild-Red’s blue knit teamed with white cuffs is a clever take on the trend. Worn with a white tunic over top, it’s both crisp and comfortable.
Nostalgic accessories
Sepia-toned summer memories are filled with nostalgic moments and the best accessory trends of the season are a playful nod to this.
Kathryn Wilson’s yellow gingham heels and Witchery’s cane bag check the box for picnics by the lake. The resin beaded bag in tortoiseshell tones, surprisingly slouchy with a round top handle, reminds us of retro gems.
When it comes to hair accessories, turban headbands and satin alice bands hark back to ’60s style – when the mod movement gave way to more-is-more.
