Summertime is the season of fun in the sun, but your skin can suffer from all the heat, humidity, and outdoor activities. If you’re looking for proven products to alleviate common summer skin problems like heat rash and increased oil production, look no further! These five products are sure to keep your skin feeling loved and happy all season long.

1. Oily skin

Although we love vitamin D for its mood-boosting properties, too much time in the sun can increase oil production from the skin’s sebaceous glands, increasing redness and heightening its sensitivity. Thankfully, clarifying and calming your skin can be as simple as using an effective AHA booster.

We recommend the all-new Jeuneora Clarifying Booster, an overnight resurfacing peel that gently exfoliates, unclogs pores, reduces redness and brightens the skin. It’s formulated with soothing ingredients like aloe vera, so it doesn’t sting on application. Use at night, after cleansing and before you apply your serums (making sure to avoid other peels or retinol). Importantly, as AHA’s can increase your sensitivity to the sun, always use SPF the next day.

2. Maskne

Mask acne or ‘maskne’ is a persistent challenge in the heat. As many of us are wearing masks every day, often for long periods at a time, their tight-fitting nature creates the perfect humid environment for bacteria to breed, resulting in irritation and acne.

Our go-to pick for fighting maskne is the Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Exfoliant, a cult favourite among beauty lovers. Formulated with salicylic acid, apply the liquid exfoliant to problem areas up to twice daily. Then, sit back and relax as the product’s lightweight consistency absorbs quickly into the skin, with the knowledge that your problem pimples will soon be a thing of the past!

Pro tip: for problem acne that won’t budge, try applying a pimple patch under your mask — no one has to know! And if you’re wearing fabric masks, opt for cotton or silk to minimise friction with the skin, and ensure you wash them regularly.

3. Dry lips

Lips are highly vulnerable to UV rays, thanks to their thin layer of skin and very little melanin. It’s therefore quite common to experience cracked lips that just won’t heal, which is why we can’t get enough of the extra-lush Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil. It deeply nourishes and softens the lips without being too greasy or sticky, and its glossy finish makes it perfect to use as is. You can also use the indulgent oil as a primer before applying lipstick. Go on, treat yourself!

4. Dry scalp

It’s no secret that too much exposure to the sun and water can leave you with a dry, itchy scalp. While excessive product use can worsen this condition, a soothing shampoo can be just the trick for alleviating that dreaded scalp itch! Sachajuan’s Scalp Shampoo is formulated to remove build-up while soothing the scalp with a combination of rosemary oil, menthol, salicylic acid and ginger extract. Light enough for everyday use, we recommend using this shampoo a few times a week for a nourished, healthy, and dandruff-free scalp.

5. Heat rash

Spending time in the sun can be challenging for those with sensitive skin, especially when you’re prone to developing heat rash. Whether you’re lazing on the beach or enjoying al fresco dining with friends, heat irritation can creep up at the most inconvenient of times, causing red, bumpy, and itchy skin. While it’s best to try and avoid heat rash altogether with a good SPF, a lightweight wrap-around and a hat, when the inevitable occurs, a repairing balm formulated for sensitive skin can do just the trick. La Roche-Posay’s Cicaplast Baume B5 Balm is perfect for relieving heat-induced rashes, so it’s no wonder we take it with us everywhere we go. It’s also a must-have product for alleviating a multitude of other skin problems, including dry patches, rough areas, and redness.
