Shrobing NYFQ

Shrobe like an It girl shrobes

We’ve long been mocked for wearing our jackets draped over our shoulders, defeating the point of sleeves altogether. And while the time has come for a new trend, those who hate the thrown-on way we wear our coats won’t be much more impressed by this unpractical style movement.

It goes by the name of ‘shrobing’, but you can think of it like shoulder robbing. Yes, really.

The trend first hit the fashion scene in March last year when Creative Director Demna Gvasalia styled his opening look during his first show for Balenciaga this way.

He’s also one of the Vetements founders meaning it MUST be cool.

So here we are once again, with Fashion Week street style stars casually half-wearing their coats like it’s the greatest trend of all time.

But we ain’t complaining, especially if it won’t set us back $1000 – Gucci Princetowns, we’re looking at you!

From puffer jackets and leather bikers to denim jackets and bombers, any ol’ outerwear can be shrugged off and worn this way. Simply secure with a wide waist belt on top or rock a cross-body bag underneath.

It might not be super effective for freezing cold climates, but with some knitwear underneath, the ‘shrobe’ will still suffice for us Kiwi fashionistas.
