Both Gabrielle Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld made many happy memories in Monaco, and Chanel’s creative director Virginie Viard paid homage to this nostalgic vibe in the luxury house’s latest collection and runway show, sourcing inspiration from the Monte Carlo ballet to the beach.
“From very early on, I knew we would hold a show there, and more precisely at the Beach Hotel. Besides, Karl was dreaming about it. From this magnificent venue, one can glimpse his villa, La Vigie. I will never forget the times I spent there: terraces and balconies, big umbrellas, baskets of flowers – so much beauty”, explains Viard.
The clothes were laid-back yet fabulous — think Chanel’s signature tweed in relaxed tailored silhouettes and matching sets, flowing metallics, and slinky sequined dresses. Invoking Monaco’s charm and treasured moments spent on holiday, this is truly a collection steeped in history and joy.
