Murad Retinal ReSculpt Overnight Treatment

As winter arrives, it brings a plethora of positives with it (who doesn’t love coat season?). But it also comes with some less enjoyable consequences; from dry, itchy skin to accentuated lines and wrinkles, the harsh elements can certainly take a toll on our skin’s wellbeing. Below, we walk you through five common skin concerns associated with winter and the treatments and products you can use to tackle them.

Texture

With a lack of humidity and moisture in the air during the cooler months, your skin is much more likely to feel dry and crepey during the winter, leading to uneven texture and accentuated wrinkles. When we’re wanting to target both of these concerns at once, Caci Clinic’s Fractional CO2 Laser treatment is an absolute go-to. Helping to tighten and strengthen the skin using a fractional carbon dioxide laser, this treatment passes pulses of light through the deeper layers of the skin, causing targeted damage to skin cells and allowing activation of the natural healing process. As your skin regenerates, the basal skin cells grow back firmer and faster, resulting in ultra-smooth, healthier looking skin.

Another method to help fight texture and even your complexion is Skinsmith’s Resurfacing AHA/BHA Resurfacing Peel – which can be used between Fractional CO2 Laser appointments or as a stand alone form of treatment. Containing an effective concoction of ingredients, including salicylic acid and lactic acid, this leave-on chemical peel works its magic by increasing cell renewal and helping remove congestion from both the surface-level and deeper layers of the skin.

Broken capillaries and redness

One of the lesser talked about (but undoubtedly bothersome) skin concerns that can arise as a result of cold and/or windy weather is redness and broken capillaries. Though they don’t cause any pain or health issues, most of us would prefer not to deal with them. To reduce the appearance of both redness and broken capillaries – as well as premature ageing, pigmentation and sun spots – we love Caci Clinic’s Photorejuvenation treatment. Using high-energy pulsed light beams, this treatment generates heat and inflammation in the skin which, like the CO2 Fractional Laser, triggers a healing process in the skin that reduces pigment and red blood vessels. Any pigment targeted during the process then rises to the skin surface and flakes away, leaving you smooth and radiant.

Dryness

Of all the winter-related skin concerns, dryness is perhaps the most common. Whether you’re flaky, scaly, or just feeling a general lack of hydration, there are a number of ways to deliver much-needed moisture to your skin including our tried and true serum, Hyaluronic acid. Containing one of the highest concentrations of Hyaluronic acid on the market, Caci Clinic’s Profhilo® treatment is injected just beneath the skin’s surface and works by stimulating elastin and collagen production. In doing so, it improves not only hydration, but a myriad of other benefits too, including reduced lines and wrinkles, more even skin tone, and a tighter, lifted appearance.

Fine lines and wrinkles

While fine lines and wrinkles develop over time, there’s no denying that they can become more pronounced during the winter months due to dryness (thanks, Mother Nature). Long heralded as a top cure for helping improve the appearance of fine lines, Microneedling might be just the treatment you need for a bit of mid-winter rejuvenation. Like the name suggests, Microneedling involves using microneedles to penetrate the skin and activate its repair process, which in turn, stimulates new collagen production. On top of visibly reducing the appearance of fine lines, you can expect an overall improvement in your skin’s appearance, from your pore size right down to your skin tone.

To maximise your Microneedling results, you should definitely consider adding a high quality retinal to your repertoire. While Murad’s cult-classic Retinol Youth Renewal Serum is suburb option for mild to moderate signs of ageing, for those with more advanced fine lines and wrinkles, Murad’s Retinal ReSculpt Overnight Treatment is a must try. Helping to visibly improve smoothness and sagging after four weeks of use, this product can be used between micro needling sessions to help increase skin cell turnover and collagen production.

Photoaging

When it’s chilly outside and your main priority is wrapping up warmly, it can be easy to forget a necessity like sunscreen. Despite what you may have thought, UV-related sun damage can occur at any time of year, particularly in Aotearoa where our ozone layer is thinner than other parts of the world. In combination with sunscreen, your best option to reduce and prevent photoaging, is to opt for a product like Skinsmiths PRO Strength Vitamin C. With a formula specifically created to help target uv-related pigmentation, the combination of Vitamin C and E, liquorice root extract and SauvigNZ (an antioxidant proven to reduce markers of oxidative stress and help protect the skin against UV damage) effectively reduces dark spots and evens the complexion.
