The polished side part: how to recreate the FQ Fashion Awards runway hair

We’re predicting off-centre to be the go-to look for those seeking a simple change.

It’s true – side parts have had a tough run. For many they evoke flashbacks of the serial side-parters in the noughties (Lauren Conrad from The Hills, anyone?), while others will remember the backlash the style received just a few years ago when Gen Z proclaimed no one looked better with a side part than they do a middle part. While the jury’s likely still out, we think an off-centre parting, when executed well, can look slick. So it’s no surprise to see an array of side parts sashaying down the runway tonight at the FQ Fashion Awards.

How to create a polished deep side part hairstyle

To create the look Shark Beauty Ambassador NZ Sara Allsop used the Shark® SmoothStyle ($199) which she says ‘is great for a beautiful smooth finish’. “I love this look as it frames the face and keeps the hair off the face and neck, allowing the clothes to be shown. It is a structured look that will hold for a long time, making it great for an evening look.”

If creating this look at home hair stylist Sara Allsop says: “Start with your hair wet. Sometimes drying the hair in the opposite direction of the way you want it to sit can make the hair sit a lot flatter. Keep the Shark® SmoothStyle close to the hair at the front hair line so you get a nice flat smooth finish. Also while you are putting on make-up and getting ready, clip or pin the front down, so it has plenty of time to sit into the new parting you have created.”
