Man bags could be set to make a very stylish comeback.
Chanel has just launched a campaign for its latest bag – the Gabrielle – and Pharrell Williams is the newest model for the gender neutral accessory.
The Gabrielle – named after Chanel’s iconic founder – had its debut at last week’s AW17 show in Paris after the brand’s head designer Karl Lagerfeld sent male models down the runway sporting the cross body bag.
While last week’s show was literally out of this world thanks to its space theme, it closed in the cutest way with Lagerfeld’s godson, eight-year-old Hudson Kroenig, taking a bow with the designer while sporting a version of the new style.

Other famous faces fronting the line-up for the star-studded campaign are Kristen Stewart, Cara Delevingne and Caroline de Maigret.
In his interview with WWD Lagerfeld revealed the bag’s shape was inspired by virtual reality goggles and it’s more neutral design meant it could be worn in “many different circumstances”. He also added that “it’s not very feminine in the sense of being chichi”.

Williams himself also put forward a convincing case for the brand’s latest luxe item stating: “I was a nerdy little black kid on a skateboard. So looking at high-end fashion was something that I really didn’t understand in the very beginning. And then I realised, slowly but surely, man this is amazing. And although there’s mostly perception that it’s just for women, I just started to see, OK, as a man I can wear some of this. So I would wear sunglasses here, or a jacket there.”
The launch date for the bag is April 3 and it will be available in tweed, black and a colour-blocked pattern. Set to be instantly iconic, the Gabrielle will retail for US $3,600 (NZ $5,110).
