The national technical educator (Australia) at Schwarzkopf, Grant Withnell, answers our questions on how to keep our hair looking healthy.
How do I calm my frizz and make it last the day (or night)?
Always use a leave-in balm or conditioning product and a small amount of serum to smooth over the ends. If you are also using a styling product, opt for one that is silicone-based.
Hello, split ends! Can they be cured or must they be snipped off?
Adopt a three-step regimen. That means using shampoo, conditioner and a treatment every time you wash your hair. Use a leave-in conditioner most of the time and,
for extra nourishment, apply a mask weekly. Also, trimming your hair every six weeks will keep it manageable and split end-free.
My hair gets greasy before the day is through. Any solutions?
Greasy hair is due to an overactive sebaceous gland. In the short term, the best solution is to keep a dry shampoo or styling powder handy at all times. Long term, wash your hair in warm water only and avoid rubbing the scalp too much as it stimulates the sebaceous gland.
My hair is brittle and dry. What should I do?
Ensure you use a good-quality treatment once a week. Treatments are always seen as something you use when your hair is dry and brittle, but they should be seen as preventative as well, not just a repair product.
