New Zealand Fashion Week (NZFW) has unveiled a revitalised event format, along with the involvement of its first major designer, ahead of its highly anticipated return this August.
At a town hall-style gathering attended by key figures from across the fashion industry, NZFW chair Liam Taylor introduced a refreshed programme designed to move beyond traditional runway shows. The 2025 event will include modified fashion presentations, shopping events, seminars, and a luncheon series, offering designers more accessible ways to participate while also engaging the local community through collaborations with the hospitality and music industries.
Iconic New Zealand designer Karen Walker also confirmed her involvement in the 2025 event, expressing enthusiasm for NZFW’s renewed energy “This vision has creativity at its heart,” Walker said. While specific details of her participation remain under wraps, Walker hinted, “I don’t know what [the show] will be, but whatever it is will be big and it will be wonderful!”
Board member Murray Bevan announced NZFW’s first major sponsors, Tātaki Auckland Unlimited and Hotel Indigo, underscoring the event’s renewed vision. As part of a broader push for inclusivity, designer participation fees have been waived for 2025, ensuring greater accessibility for both emerging and established talents. NZFW, which will take place from 25th – 30th August, will also move to a new venue – Shed 10 on Queens Wharf in Tāmaki Makaurau – offering a more flexible and dynamic setting for NZFW’s next chapter.
NZFW’s full schedule will be announced on 16th June, with the official event campaign launch and ticket sales going live on 30th June.
