…And just like that! NYFW is already behind us for another season. Before we get swept up in a flurry of new looks from our favourite London-based labels, let’s take a moment to reflect on the best street style trends we saw at NYFW.
From toffee tones to sensational sweaters, if you’re in need of a little inspiration for your winter wardrobe, one of these trends might be for you.
1. All Terrain Boots
Stomping in puddles will prove no issue for this footwear favourite. Functioning somewhere between a gumboot and a fashion boot, all-terrain boots were spotted everywhere this NYFW. If practicality and appearance are on your list of must haves in a shoe, then this style might be just the ticket.
2. Apple Green
Green fever was alive and well in the Big Apple, and apple-green was at the top of the list. Crisp and colourful, this hue was seen in everything from bags and coats to hoodies. No matter your styling preference, apple-green dressing is a chic way to inject a little vibrancy into your winter wardrobe.
3. Silver
Nothing turns heads like a bit of shine. While it may be winter in New York, fashion week attendees left their monochrome at home in favour of bold metallics. From the likes of thigh-high gold boots to heavy-duty silver jackets, there were glimpses of high-shine shimmer on every corner.
4. All Day Denim
A timeless staple for a reason – denim shirting was everywhere this NYFW. Lightweight and transseasonal, denim shirts achieve a put together look with minimal effort. For those wanting to go the extra mile, try pairing your denim shirt with a matching or similar jean or midi skirt (another incoming trend) to achieve a full ‘Canadian Tuxedo’.
5. Toffee tones
An array of copper and deep mahogany hues have been on the rise as of late. Not sure where you sit in the palette? Stick to toffee as it’s the perfect shade of brown for those looking to get away from their monochromatic staples without deviating too far. If the tone is labelled caramel, burnt toast, or brown sugar, you’re on the money for a winning hue.
6. Ladylike Coats
This season’s street style looks showed us that ladylike coats are all the rage right now. With uber-tailored and fur trim coats donned by many attendees, signals suggest that we may be straying away from the oversized trend that has dominated the fashion world for the past few years in favour of more feminine tailoring.
7. Sensational Sweaters
Forget minimalism, bold styles are everything right now according to NYFW street style. Chunky print sweaters were spotted on multiple fashionistas, and by the looks of things, the louder the print the better. There’s never been a better time to try on those sweaters your mum wore in the ‘80s!
