The new styling rules according to Stolen Girlfriends Club

Stolen Girlfriends Club
Amid an old warehouse in Kingsland, Stolen Girlfriends Club reminded us why they have a reputation for bringing the party to fashion week.

LA-based Kiwi stylists Sebastian McGirr Hunt and Dylan Richards went for a “tough, tomboyish and sexy” vibe, with girls dressing as if in their boyfriends’ clothes and the guys playing it tough themselves, with a distinctive Eastern bloc feel.

Here’s the 10 stand-out styling tips that had us sitting up and paying attention:

    1. Tag away: Words, sketches and other motifs by artist Micheala Van Der Laan graffitied on Vans, boots, jacket lapels and sleeves gave us vivid flashbacks to school days of doodling on our pencil cases, shoes and schoolbag.Graffiti jackets at Stolen Girlfriends Club
    2. Borrow from the boys: Oversized belts were left hanging loose, in some cases almost dragging on the ground.

    3. Cuff ’em up: Boys cuffed their jeans mid-shin with a chunky, half-assed rolling action.

    4.  Cold shoulder: Jackets and flannel shirts were worn belted, unbuttoned to the waist and off the shoulder. Brb trying this immediately.

    5. News flash: Chains are back, boys.Stolen Girlfriends Club NZFW 2016
    6. Leather for everyone: Leather shirts for girls and guys.

    7. Forget your denim cutoffs: This summer you’ll be wearing itsy bitsy teeny tiny leather shorts. If you dare.Stolen Girlfriends Club NZFW 2016
    8. Slip dresses over tees are yesterday’s news: Take it to the next lev and wear a leather shift dress over a hoodie.Stolen Girlfriends Club NZFW 2016
    9. Get more bang for your buck: Detachable chaps convert SGC’s classic Lulu ankle boots to raunchy, mean thigh-grazers. Stolen Girlfriends Club boots
    10. Belts should sparkle. End of.Stolen Girlfriends Club NZFW 2016
