The new Karen Walker eyewear campaign features artisans from Kenya.

If there’s one thing Karen Walker has proved over the years, it’s that she knows how to push boundaries – a move that is resoundingly paying off in regards to her eyewear.

The daringly unique and flamboyant sunglasses that look as if they should only adorn the faces of devout fashion followers are being sported by everyone from celebrities, editors and, most importantly, the everyday sun-impaired person.

That’s not without help from the designer’s memorable and polarising eyewear campaigns, that have encompassed everything from the young and old, dictators, aliens, and even an assortment of very chic, old-fashioned brooms.

The new Karen Walker eyewear campaign, Visible, photographed by veteran collaborator Derek Henderson, highlights the needs of poverty-stricken artisans from a remote village just outside of Nairobi as part of the United Nations’ ITC Ethical Fashion Initiative.

Sporting new exaggerated styles as well as re-inventions of old favourites, the crafts people have also created screen-printed pouches, available in four different styles in black and gold, to be included with every pair purchased from the Summer 2014 season.

The new styles will be in store and online from late February.
