A trend emerging from the beauty looks at New York Fashion Week is to ditch vibrant, power pouts in favour of minimalist lip colour.

Barely-there looks were created for models at Lacoste, for an athletic look to tie in with the label’s homage to the golf course. Maybelline New York guest makeup artist Mayia Alleaume gave models porcelain-like complexions paired with lip balm and a nude colour to keep things sheer and simple.

French Ye Ye girls of the sixties were the inspiration behind rag & bone ‘s makeup, with Revlon Global Artistic Director Gucci Westman creating a bold cat eye with luminous skin, complimented with neutral lips and nails.

A similarly subtle look was created at Public School, inspired by the natural beauty of a skater boy’s best girlfriend who is not afraid to be tough.

“This look is all about the skin feeling luminous and natural,” said Westman. “I was inspired by an enhanced version of the girl next door, but more of a raw yet gorgeous tomboy.”

And while others opted for a hint of colour, the beauty look at Alexander Wang was all about “pure” beauty – with bleached eyebrows, luminous skin and zero lip hue – to draw all the attention to the model’s hair, which was expertly styled by Redken’s Guido Paulo.
