Netflix says goodbye to Girlboss after the first season
The original Netflix series Girlboss, which is based on Sophia Amoruso’s early days as the founder of Nasty Gal, will forever be a one season wonder, after today’s announcement that the show won’t return for a second time.
You’d think that if the streaming giant made a show about your life and then cancelled it after one series, you’d be pretty gutted, but according to Amoruso’s Instagram posts, relief seems to be a more resounding feeling.
“So that Netflix series about my life got canceled,” she wrote on her story. “While I’m proud of the work we did, I’m looking forward to controlling my narrative from here on out. It was a good show, and I was privileged to work with incredible talent, but living my life as a caricature was hard even if only for two months. Yes, I can be difficult. No, I’m not a dick. No, someone named Shane never cheated on me. It will be nice to someday tell the story of what’s happened in the last few years. People read the headline, not the correction, I’ve learned.”
The news comes after Netflix ruthlessly revealed the cancellation of two other shows, The Get Down and Sense8, which was a plan CEO and Founder Reed Hastings has been quite open about.
“Our hit ratio is way too high right now,” Hastings told CNBC in May. “So, we’ve canceled very few shows … I’m always pushing the content team: We have to take more risk; you have to try more crazy things. Because we should have a higher cancel rate overall.”
So people, if there’s an original Netflix series that you’re obsessed with, don’t get too attached ’cause it could be cut as fast as you can say ‘Goodbye, Girlboss‘.
