This month, the world’s most loved champagne, Moët & Chandon, joins forces with Auckland’s most elevated wine destination, The Wine Room, for a collaboration that brings a new level of celebration to New Zealand’s shores.
To mark the partnership, The Wine Room will host an exclusive Collection Impériale Dinner on Friday 21 November. Sixteen guests will experience Moët & Chandon’s Collection Impériale No.1 — a cuvée twenty years in the making, poured for the first time in New Zealand. Guiding the experience is Moët & Chandon Champagne Ambassador Dean O’Reilly, who flying in to exclusively share the stories, techniques, and artistry behind this exceptional creation.
Collection Impériale No.1 is Moët’s most complex blend to date, combining seven vintages from 2000 to 2013, each aged differently to highlight its unique character. It’s the house’s first brut nature, with no added sugar, giving a clean, layered taste that balances toast, hazelnut, stone fruit, and a subtle edge that keeps you coming back for another sip.
The Wine Room’s menu has been designed to match the champagne perfectly: Te Matuku oysters and kingfish rosti with Grand Vintage 2013; crayfish-stuffed courgette flowers with Collection Impériale No.1; duck with Grand Vintage Rosé 2015; and strawberries with Grand Vintage 2016. Each course plays with texture and flavour, letting the champagne shine rather than compete.
Tickets are $199, and with only sixteen seats, it’s a rare chance to see the wines in action. Once the night ends Collection Impériale No.1 will remain on The Wine Room’s list, by the glass or bottle, for anyone wanting to revisit — or discover it for the first time.
This ‘Le Club’ event also marks The Wine Room’s first birthday — a milestone perfectly suited to Moët & Chandon, the champagne synonymous with celebration. In addition, The Wine Room continues its retail offering of Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage 2016, with a range of Grand Vintage (blanc and rosé) vintages available for purchase both in-store and online. Each bottle comes with a special gift-with-purchase — a gold stopper — making it the perfect keepsake for any champagne lover.
