“It broke my heart”
When these two Aussie best friends began proudly posting photos to Instagram, demonstrating their beautiful size diversity as models, they never imagined it would cause such controversy. Followers of Georgia Gibbs, a size 6, began accusing her of Photoshopping Kate Wasley, her size 16 BFF, to look bigger in photos of the pair together.
“You have photoshopped yourself thinner or your friend bigger, what kind of friend are you?” one user wrote in response to the photo, below, that started the drama.
Georgia is refusing to take the criticism lightly, hitting back at the trolls’ claims. “We posted this picture online, just as best friends going out on the weekend,” she wrote in her Instagram caption. “It broke my heart because Kate and I are best friends why would I do that?”
“The fact that a simple picture of two people together went so viral purely because of their body types shocked me… all I see here is two women.. not one “skinny” woman and one “curvy” woman, stop comparing everyone to each other and accept every person as beautiful in their own right.”
In a move that turned the conversation on its head, the models decided to launch a rad body positive Instagram account, @any.body_co on International Women’s Day. In just one week, they’ve gathered 88k loyal and super positive followers. Plus, their hashtag #LoveAnyBODY has gone viral.
“Health is more important than size and healthy bodies come in many different shapes and sizes,” Kate poignantly said to Daily Mail Australia. “We all have imperfections and things we are insecure about but we are all human and these things are normal and beautiful. They make us who we are.”
It’s an important message in self-love, friendship, confidence and diversity – and we can’t wait to see more from these two babein’ models.
