Television personality, fashion designer, business owner and mother; Kristin Cavallari juggles it all.
Kristin Cavallari is no stranger to the spotlight. Since starring on Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County as a junior in high school, and returning to reality television several years later for a stint on The Hills, Cavallari has thrown herself into so many aspects of life – becoming a mum, author, jewellery designer and business owner among other things.
Now with a new show out, Very Cavallari, which focuses on her family and running her brand Uncommon James, she shares with Fashion Quarterly her experiences with fame, career and parenthood:
What can Kiwi audiences expect from your show Very Cavallari? You’re on to the second season, right?
This season has a lot more heart. We touch on some very real, personal topics.
Aside from the show, you’ve expanded your jewellery and fashion brand Uncommon James to sell homewares and a children’s line, Little James. Is there anything else in the market you’d want to tap into for your brand – beauty, perhaps?
Right now, my focus is my three brands. I want to get them to a really great place before adding another line.
What’s it like juggling motherhood and running your own business? And how about being in the public eye while you’re trying to do it all?
I’ve got to a really great place of figuring out what balance means for me and my family – it’s about sticking to a routine. I’m home every morning with the kids making them breakfast and packing their lunches, I take them to school then head into the office. I’m home every night before dinner and I never work on the weekends. As far as the public goes, I don’t pay attention to the noise – it’s not real life.
What is your favourite recipe from your cookbook True Roots and why?
I love the almond butter zucchini blondes. I have a massive sweet tooth and zucchini makes them incredibly moist – you would never know there is a hidden green in there.
Who’s your female icon or inspiration and why?
For fashion, it’s Kate Moss. In general, any woman founder and/or CEO. I’m impressed by other women who are able to run companies, be a mom and still manage to seemingly keep it all together. It’s really hard at times so I think it’s incredible that so many women are doing it now.
When did you last act fearlessly?
Probably when I decided to open up so much on this season of Very Cavallari; I didn’t hold back and was incredibly vulnerable.
What are your 3 staple beauty items you just can’t live without?
Armani Lashes to Kill mascara, Anastasia Brow Wiz pencil, and Revision tinted moisturiser.
You’ve already achieved so much, what’s next on the bucket list?
I’m excited to host Paradise Hotel on Fox in a few weeks. Getting to be part of a big network show is a dream come true.
Very Cavallari is on E! (SKY channel 14) Mondays at 8.30pm.
