The jewellery we choose to wear for a lifetime is highly sentimental in nature, which makes the ethics behind gemstone sourcing all the more important.
Recently, Michael Hill announced that it is the first jewellery brand to carry a range of diamonds from the De Beers Code of Origin Trusted Source Program, a proud milestone for its social responsibility journey. Notably, the diamonds reflect a deep commitment to social and environmental responsibility, giving the wearer peace of mind.
“At Michael Hill, responsible and ethical sourcing have long been a key focus. Sustainability initiatives continue to be a critical part of our ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility program, and we are proud to introduce this range of diamonds with the De Beers Code of Origin,” says Michael Hill CEO Daniel Bracken.
The natural and conflict-free diamonds come in an array of luxurious carat weights. Michael Hill sets them in signature solitaire rings in Australia, in either 18kt gold or platinum. With the solitaire being the most classic engagement ring style, the rings are the perfect addition to ‘The Solitaire by Michael Hill’ collection.
All diamonds under the De Beers Code of Origin Trusted Source Program are discovered in Botswana, Canada, Namibia, or South Africa. Crucially, they help provide jobs, healthcare, and education, with a particular focus on initiatives supporting women and girls. Meeting strict ethical standards, the diamonds also support De Beer’s wildlife conservation efforts and the company’s commitment to becoming carbon neutral by 2030.
Executive Vice President of De Beers, Stephen Lussier, says “We’re proud to work together with Michael Hill on the launch of this exciting new program that will connect customers with the positive impacts their diamonds have made on people and the planet.”
The capsule collection is available across select Michael Hill stores in New Zealand, Australia, and Canada, and online at michaelhill.co.nz. You can read more about the De Beers Code of Origin Trusted Source Program here.
