#WeStandTogether | One Love Manchester
The One Love Manchester concert was streamed live all around globe yesterday. Musicians such as Coldplay, the Biebs and Miley Cyrus payed tribute to the fallen victims of the Manchester bombing that happened late May. Out of the scores of talented performances, Miss FQ picks out the most heart-warming and emotional moments of the show.
1. Marcus Mumford opening the concert with one minute of silence
“After recent events in Manchester, in London and around the rest of the world, would you please stand for a moment’s silence.”
Mumford and Son’s front man Marcus Mumford opened the concert with a moment’s silence as tribute to the fallen victims of the attack.
He ended the silence with: “Let’s not be afraid.”
2. Robbie Williams’ emotional ‘Angels’ performance
Emotions were set high as the singer, who is currently on his The Heavy Entertainment tour, performed his 2nd song that night, ‘Angels’- which was a crowd singalong favourite.
3. The Ariana Grande we know back in the game with ‘Be Alright.’
It was Ariana’s first performance since the bombing on May 22nd; no doubt the crowd and those watching around the globe anticipated her returning to the stage as being a powerful act.
4. Ariana Grande and Miley Cyrus perform Kiwi hit
One of the many duets of the night included a reprise of Crowded House’s ‘Don’t dream It’s Over’ with Ariana being joined by Miley Cyrus.
The two stars previously performed the song in collaboration with Miley’s organisation the Happy Hippie Foundation.
5. Justin Beiber’s emotional spin on ‘Love Yourself’ and ‘Cold Water’
Justin’s acoustic performances of his two massive ‘Purpose’ singles hit hard audiences hard at the One Love Manchester gig, as the songs followed the Biebs’ small opening speech on good and evil.
“Would you agree that love always wins?” he asked the crowd. “What better way to fight evil with evil, than to fight evil with good.”
6. Katy Perry: “We will not be silenced.”
Introducing her set with a couple of her hit songs, including Roar, Katy Perry told audiences all over the world to “share and spread love.”
“Thank you so much Ariana for your courage and strength.”
In an opening speech she opened up about how it is not always easy choosing love.
“Especially in moments like these, it can be the most difficult thing to do.”
7. Ariana joined by her boyfriend for ‘The Way’
One of the highlights of the concert was the duet between real life couple Ariana and Mac Miller with their classic hit ‘The Way.’
Their chemistry shone throughout the performance, with Ariana appearing less tense and controlled and more of the sassy performer that she is.
8. The emotional Parrs Wood High School Choir performance
Much emotion lit up the stage during the concert, including that of the little soloist girl who performed with the Parrs Wood High School Choir.
Ariana joined in the song (1:13) and comforted the girl during the high school’s One Love Manchester rendition of Ariana’s ‘My Everything.’
9. One word: Coldplay
No one gets a crowd going like Coldplay can. The group, among other hits, performed their powerful tear-jerker ‘Fix you,’ for the tear-stained faces of the audience.
The combination of song lyrics such as “lights will guide you home and ignite your bones” with the emotional atmosphere of the show was especially heart-wrenching.
10. Ariana’s closing rendition of ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’
Ariana closed the show with a breath-taking performance of Somewhere Over The Rainbow; a performance which drew many including herself to tears.
After much pent up emotion throughout the concert, she visibly took a moment to compose herself and finish the stunning ending tribute.
