The new release from MAC and Stolen Girlfriends Club that’s an instant must-have; a classic soon to be a collector’s edition.

When it comes to beauty brands thinking outside their boxes, MAC Cosmetics has led the way for decades. The company has a storied history of epic collaborations, from our own Lorde to Lady Gaga, Barbie and The Simpsons. The playful connections give the cosmetics company a creative starting point to explore unique packaging and product hues, and its fashion connections and backstage history are also legendary.

So we’re prepping the credit card at the news that there’s a cool new local collaboration about to drop that we think is the perfect pairing.

MAC has teamed up with Stolen Girlfriends Club on a limited-edition release which will no doubt become as sought after as that tomato red leather ensemble the NZ label sent down their jaw-dropping runway at last week’s NZ Fashion Week.

Taking inspiration from that range, Stolen Romantics, a custom Scorpion Print, which is scattered throughout the collection on printed silk and as hardware dangling from handbags, now adorns the box of iconic Lady Danger lipstick for a limited time.

MAC has only created a limited edition in partnership with a New Zealand fashion label once before: a petrol-blue Cream Colour Base called Kokako Blue, for a collection Zambesi showed at NZFW in 2005.

Lady Danger, a universally-loved vivid orange-red lipstick, was applied by MAC senior artist Kiekie Stanners to models’ lips for the show, the beauty look the epitome of the brand’s DGAF cool.

To design the makeup, Kiekie called on designer Marc Moore’s starting point for the fashion range (and that print), the 1994 film Natural Born Killers. In particular, Juliette Lewis’ character Mallory Knox and the scorpion tattoo adorning her hip.

“Marc is a born storyteller who refuses to be pigeon-holed by traditional notions of fashion,” says Kiekie. “He uses everything he has at his disposal to tell mesmerising and evocative stories. It’s that emotion that I’m drawn to and why I love getting to create a character with makeup with him.”

As a colour Lady Danger is “dangerously romantic”, points out Kiekie, “the perfect fit for a Stolen Girlfriends muse”. It remains one of MAC’s top-selling shades globally.

“Lady Danger perfectly sums up the Stolen Girlfriends Club dream-girl,” confirms Marc. “We’re beyond thrilled that our customers are going to be able to buy their little bit of Stolen through MAC.”

The Stolen Girlfriends Club limited edition Lady Danger by MAC, $40, will be available from selected Stolen Girlfriends Club stores and MAC counters from September 9.
