If there was one trend that dominated the beauty news last year, it was glazed-doughnut nails. Popularised by Hailey Bieber, the sensation saw nails that glisten like Krispy Kreme’s classic confection on everyone’s fingertips. Evolving from the glazed skin buzz, the look took off on TikTok and was soon among the most requested nail finishes of the year. What goes up must come down, though, so as time marches on, the glazed-doughnut’s chrome coating has begun to make way for something new — lipgloss nails.
Lip service
As the name suggests, the lipgloss nails look mimics the sheeny, shiny finish of glossy lips. A sticky-looking layer of gloss tinted a barely there pink, it could be compared to Lancôme’s famed Juicy Tubes of the early noughties. A bonus: despite its almost jelly-like appearance being hard-hitting on the fashion front, it’s a relatively minimal effect, and thanks to the hue being close to your natural nail shade, it’s pretty forgiving as it grows out.
All about that base
To nail this look at home, pay close attention to your base; your natural nails will be visible under your lipgloss finish, so make sure they’re well-shaped and buffed. Apply a sheer pink undercoat like OPI Bubble Bath or Essie Mademoiselle, then two cots of an ultra-glossy topcoat —we like quick-drying Essie Gel Couture, which is formulated to last for up to 12 days. If you prefer to leave your nails to the professionals, consider requesting salon-only product Builder Gel, which works in a similar way to a regular gel base coat but comes in the perfect Juicy Tubes pink, protects and nourishes your nails, and makes your manicure last longer.
