A leading fashion industry insider has earmarked two of our top designers.
Net-a-Porter’s fashion director Lisa Aiken has cast her seasoned eye over some of fashion’s leading names at this year’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA), and has tipped two of our top designers as the cool names to watch right now.
The fashion director is in Sydney for the week-long event which showcases the best Australian (and Kiwi) fashion talent. And while she’s obviously yet to take in all the collections showing, she’s revealed her picks of the best up-and-coming designers.
Vogue Australia reports Aiken’s pick of “local talent to look for” includes Georgia Alice and Maggie Marilyn but doesn’t draw attention to the fact they are both Kiwi brands.
Along with Georgia Alice and Maggie, Australian jewellery designer Natasha Schweitzer was also given Aiken’s nod of approval.

The fashion executive was quick to praise all the labels she name-checked.
Aiken called Georgia Alice’s pieces “wearable and timeless” and that she’d had great response to the designer’s collection from Net-a-Porter’s global customers.

Maggie Marilyn was given special mention for her “beautifully edited collection of must-have pieces”. Aiken said she was really looking forward to seeing what Jo Knight and Maggie Hewitt, the women behind the label, would deliver this time around.

Australian jewellery designer Natasha Schweitzer was hailed by Aiken for her clean design aesthetic.
Each of Schweitzer’s pieces is handcrafted and her signature style is a playful mix of shapes. Think triangles, octagons and circles stacked and intertwined with one another.
