Fit for purpose: Key considerations to keep in mind when choosing a maternity bra

Finding a maternity bra that fits shouldn’t be a chore, and thanks to Bendon’s Nurture range, it doesn’t have to be.

It can be difficult to find a good bra at the best of times. They need to be supportive, comfortable, flattering and nice to look at — and that’s just asking the bare minimum. Much like we have sports bras for exercise, maternity bras were invented to support women while they’re growing and nursing a baby.

While it differs from woman to woman, the hormonal fluctuations that occur during pregnancy can drastically change the shape, look, and feel of your breasts. From swelling in the breast tissue and nipples through to pain and increased sensitivity, the effects of pregnancy are vast and varied. After giving birth, your breasts often need even more support, especially while breastfeeding when they may be sore or leaking milk.

Though it goes without saying, pregnancy and postpartum is a challenging time without the added frustration of an ill-fitting bra. As most women know, not all bras are created equal — the same can also be said for maternity bras. One brand that’s really been going above for what goes under is Bendon, whose maternity range has had a refresh this winter season. Welcoming a new Maternity Contour Bra and Maternity Wire Free Bra to their Nurture capsule, the brand is furthering their offerings for new and expectant mums who might be struggling to find their optimal fit.

Although underwire is typically considered a support feature in most bras, going underwire free during pregnancy and postpartum is thought to be the best approach to avoid constricting your growing breasts. Each of the new styles from Bendon feature extra soft, wire-free padding for this very reason, providing all the comfort and support without the restriction. Designed to accommodate up to an F cup, the new Nurture bras provide equal support during the postpartum nursing stage, featuring drop-down front clips for easy access whilst breastfeeding, as well as adjustable straps and an extra long six-row hook and eye adjustment to allow for size changes.

With inner cotton lining added to the Maternity Wire Free Bra, breastfeeding mothers can feel confident wearing whatever clothing they like without fear of leakage. Considering their strong focus on utility, it’s common for many maternity bras to be less attractive and flattering than regular bras — but not Bendon’s. Ticking all of the boxes, both of the brand’s new maternity styles will be arriving in a chic latte hue that deserves a premium spot in your top drawer. Although looking good might not be your main priority while nurturing your little one, Bendon understands that you deserve to feel confident and sexy at every stage.
