Joining an elite honour-roll that includes international designers Carolina Herrera, Derek Lam, Badgley Mischka and local fashion maven Dame Trelise Cooper, Kate Sylvester has this morning been named by Mercedes-Benz New Zealand as the ‘Mercedes-Benz Presents’ designer for 2015.
The ‘Mercedes-Benz Presents’ accolade is a global initiative that recognises designers who demonstrate dedication to the use of high quality materials, innovative design and unique style.
Ben Giffin, General Manager of Mercedes-Benz Cars New Zealand, has stated that the choice to honour Kate was an obvious one.
“Kate is unquestionably one of New Zealand’s most renowned and established designers, whose commitment to style and timeless, cutting-edge design perfectly complements our own philosophies here at Mercedes-Benz.”
Kate, too, is thrilled to be collaborating with an “iconic, inspirational brand” that she has long admired. She echoes Giffin’s sentiments in talking about how “beautifully aligned” with her own brand are Mercedes-Benz’s “core values of innovation and timeless quality”, and she continues on to praise Mercedes-Benz for the work it does to support fashion events globally.
It is true that Mercedes-Benz is today all-but synonymous with global fashion. As title sponsor of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Weeks in Berlin, Sydney, Madrid and Tokyo, and major sponsor of Fashion Weeks in Paris, London and Milan, the brand can claim two decades of commitment to the international fashion industry.
Here in New Zealand, Mercedes-Benz is an Elite Partner of New Zealand Fashion Week, where Kate Sylvester’s brand new Autumn/Winter 2016 collection will be premiered in the exclusive runway show ‘Mercedes-Benz Presents Kate Sylvester’.
As the debut evening show of New Zealand Fashion Week 2015, ‘Mercedes-Benz Presents Kate Sylvester’ is an event that Ben Giffin says he is “particularly delighted” about. He adds that Mercedes-Benz Cars New Zealand is “very proud to welcome Kate Sylvester into the global family of Mercedes-Benz Presents designers”.
