Kanye West says fashion should be accessible for everybody and that he is opposed to the elitism associated with high-end designer clothing.
Speaking to Style.com after his Kanye West x adidas Originals show at New York Fashion Week, West said he wanted to make beautiful products available to as many people as possible.
“[Fashion] is being held and blocked and not given to the people. So this is very much a Robin Hood approach that I have to making clothes.
“Everyone should have the good life. It’s like [Amancio] Ortega [founder of Zara] and H&M group. Before that happened, you could tell who came from money, who didn’t, who had a bigger paycheck, who didn’t.
“It was about separation and I think high fashion is about elitism and separation, and I am completely opposed to that.”
West’s collaborative collection, which included flesh-coloured body suits, military jackets and tracksuit pants, was shown to a host of guests including Beyonce, Jay-Z, Justin Bieber, Anna Wintour and Rihanna.
