Playing beauty parlour isn’t big in the Garner-Affleck household. “I want my kids to know they’re pretty on the inside, no matter what they hear,” says Jennifer Garner, mum to Violet, 7, Seraphina, 4, and Samuel, 14 months, with husband Ben Affleck, 40. So the actress, also 40, sets an example for her girls. “I believe less is more,” says the Neutrogena spokeswoman. “Wearing a little concealer and blush wouldn’t kill me, but it’s not a priority. I just try to keep my skin looking as good as it can.”

You’re fair-skinned, do you sunbathe?
No. In the morning I put on sunscreen. For work, I’ve spray-tanned. You look better with a tan, it’s true, but there’s NO point in screwing up your skin long-term when you can get one from a bottle.

Same for the kids?
My kids love the sun but do not relish putting on sunscreen. I make it non-negotiable, like buckling them into the car seat. You can try a sticker chart. Whatever you need to do!

Do you wear any make-up?
I definitely always have lip balm in every purse, car and backpack. My lips get dry – and they take up half my face!

When you get dolled up for events, are your children shocked?
I’m lucky I can have moments when my hair and make-up are down and I’ in something fancy. My kids say, “Wow! You look like a princess.” They love a sparkly dress!
