Miss FQ: How old are you?
Katie Rose: 20
Where are you from?
Auckland
What’s your dream and why do you want to Make It Happen?
My dream is to become a tattoo artist and I’m interested in merging the divide between being an entrepreneur, being an artist and also being involved in the fashion industry.
What are you doing at the moment?
I study fashion design at AUT and I also minor in creative entrepreneurship. I also work as a barista.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
I’d love to be tattooing and be well established as an artist. And I also want a French Bulldog…
Where is your dream place to learn the art of tattooing?
My dream place to be an apprentice would be Two Hands Tattoo, Auckland or Hunter and Fox, Sydney. There are so many amazing places but it’s more about the person I’d be learning from.
Can you tell me about the meaning behind your own tattoos?
Most of them are either ideas of mine or flash where I’ve just walked in off the street and decided that I like the designs. Most of them are pointillism which is a dot-work type of art era and people have started transferring that into tattoos.
How do you describe your design style? Do you have that figured out yet?
No I don’t. I mean I have worked as an illustrator for a while and done a lot of freelance work on brands campaigns and things like that. I normally do a specific type of illustration which is pretty girls and so I’m still trying to figure out how to merge that with a tattoo style that can be transferred. It’s one thing to do realism and another to do it on someone’s skin.
What’s on your bucket list?
I’m saving up to go to Japan. I would love to own my own shop or tattoo studio – that’s more of a goal than a bucket list. I would also love to go to Korean or New York fashion week. And I want to see a band called The Transplants live… before they all die! [laughs]
