This week the negroni gets a turn in the spotlight, and not just because it’s one of the world’s most-loved cocktails.
As well as celebrating the Campari classic, Negroni Week, which runs from 5–11 June, also aims to raise money for a raft of charitable causes.
Bars and restaurants across the globe – including New Zealand – are taking part. Head to the likes of The Gin Room in Auckland, Five and Dime in Wellington and The Bunker in Queenstown – or visit negroniweek.com for a full list of participating venues across the country.
If you fancy giving the negroni a go at home, here’s the perfect recipe:
INGREDIENTS:
Ice
Gin
Sweet vermouth
Campari
Slice of orange
Orange zest
METHOD:
First, chill a glass with ice. Then pour equal parts (30ml) good-quality gin, sweet vermouth and Campari into a separate glass or Boston cocktail shaker. Stir. Remove any water from your chilled glass and pour mixture over the remaining ice using a strainer. Garnish with a slice of orange and a twist of orange zest.
