Fabric
Fabric is a crucial part of swimwear design, says Stanley, with the material determining not only the look, but the support and comfort too. The most common swimsuits use a blend with 20% Lycra, which come in shiny and matte finishes. Microfibres tend to be a bit lighter in weight and feel more like lingerie fabrics, and jacquard knitted fabrications are textured and patterned with a raised effect.
“If you need support and more form-fitting fabrics from your swimwear, then I’d recommend a blend with Lycra or a jacquard, as they have more strength to them,” Stanley says.
“On the other hand, microfibres are so comfy and soft to wear, and can create beautiful surface texture such as rouching, draping or pleating that can be extremely flattering.”
