Harman Grubiša has been named as the ‘Mercedes-Benz Presents’ designer for 2016.
The accolade caps off what can only be called an extremely memorable year for Madeleine Harman and Jessica Grubiša.
This time last year, the design duo were gearing up for their debut show at New Zealand Fashion Week, unaware of the universal acclaim their collection would soon receive. This was merely weeks after opening their first flagship boutique on Ponsonby’s Jervois Road, a coveted spot for any designer, let alone a brand barely a year old at the time. Earlier this month they were up for the prestigious International Woolmark Prize (a nomination being an achievement in itself but for which they sadly did not win).
The ‘Mercedes-Benz Presents’ award is reserved for designers who demonstrate dedication to the use of high quality materials, innovative design and unique style, and has previously been bestowed upon Carolina Herrera, Derek Lam, Badgely Mischka, Dame Trelise Cooper and Kate Sylvester.
“We are both thrilled and humbled to have been invited into the global Mercedes-Benz family”, says Harman. “Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to promoting fashion worldwide is incredible.”
Adds Grubiša: “We have the utmost admiration for the Mercedes-Benz Presents designers and accolade, and feel honoured to be joining such an esteemed list of talent.”
‘Mercedes-Benz Presents Harman Grubiša’ will feature as the debut evening show at New Zealand Fashion Week on August 22.
