Everyone bought this bag on Net-a-Porter in 2018

You don’t have to be the least bit in­ter­ested in fash­ion to know that the Gucci ‘GG Mar­mont’ bag was pretty big in 2018.


Okay, you might not know it by name, but you’ve def­i­nitely seen it on in­flu­encers, In­sta­gram and IRL. It’s the per­fect tran­si­tional bag to go from the of­fice to a bar with­out any need to run home and de­cant your es­sen­tials into a ‘night out bag’.

“In 2018, we sold over 1,000 units of the Gucci GG Mar­mont bag,” Net-a-Porter’s Global Buy­ing Di­rec­tor, Eliz­a­beth von der Goltz told In­Style this week.

From the £760 mini cam­era bag ver­sion to the £2000 shoul­der bag, the Mar­mont range of bags can be iden­ti­fied by their quilt­ing and flashy dou­ble G logo.

The de­sign might be a 2018 hit, but the gold hard­ware ref­er­ences an archival Gucci plaque from the ’70s. Made in Italy, the leather bag comes in black, red and dusty pink and taps into the cross-body bag trend we saw every­where from fes­ti­vals to run­ways this year.


Celebri­ties have been spot­ted count­less times with this bag, from Elle Fan­ning to Kourt­ney Kar­dashian and Dakota John­son.

Won­der­ing what else peo­ple were snap­ping up on Net-a-Porter this year? Von der Goltz told In­Style that the Loewe Small leather-trimmed wo­ven raf­fia tote, Souliers Mar­tinez wo­ven pumps and To­hum shell neck­laces were also big hits this year.
