You don’t have to be the least bit interested in fashion to know that the Gucci ‘GG Marmont’ bag was pretty big in 2018.
Okay, you might not know it by name, but you’ve definitely seen it on influencers, Instagram and IRL. It’s the perfect transitional bag to go from the office to a bar without any need to run home and decant your essentials into a ‘night out bag’.
“In 2018, we sold over 1,000 units of the Gucci GG Marmont bag,” Net-a-Porter’s Global Buying Director, Elizabeth von der Goltz told InStyle this week.
From the £760 mini camera bag version to the £2000 shoulder bag, the Marmont range of bags can be identified by their quilting and flashy double G logo.
The design might be a 2018 hit, but the gold hardware references an archival Gucci plaque from the ’70s. Made in Italy, the leather bag comes in black, red and dusty pink and taps into the cross-body bag trend we saw everywhere from festivals to runways this year.
Celebrities have been spotted countless times with this bag, from Elle Fanning to Kourtney Kardashian and Dakota Johnson.
Wondering what else people were snapping up on Net-a-Porter this year? Von der Goltz told InStyle that the Loewe Small leather-trimmed woven raffia tote, Souliers Martinez woven pumps and Tohum shell necklaces were also big hits this year.
We wonder what next year’s sell-out items will be?!
