Can. Not. Wait.
Fans have been patiently waiting for the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones, ever since season seven ended in August 2017. That’s almost an entire year of waiting for news on when the next episodes would air!
Thankfully, HBO programming president Casey Bloys has finally confirmed a premiere date.
At the Television Critics Association summer tour in Beverly Hills, California, Bloys revealed that the season eight will premiere in the first half of 2019.
As for details regarding the upcoming six-episode season, Bloys simply says “it’s pretty great.” Bloys also confirmed that HBO’s Game of Thrones spin-off – Age of Heroes – would begin filming in Belfast in 2019.
Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke)
have a bumpy road ahead in Season 8.
Just like the previous season, season eight of Game of Thrones will be loosely adapted from details George R. R. Martin has shared with the show-runners about his future novels. Meaning, without a current book to compare the series to, plot details are quite scarce.
Fortunately, the cast have been more than happy to share the occasional spoiler in the long wait between the seasons.
Leading lady Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) says season eight’s finale will leave fans divided.
“People will scream and people will say, ‘That’s exactly what I wanted'”, she revealed. “And some people will go, ‘Huh?’ — my mum, probably,” she continues.
Meanwhile, Joe Dempsey has hinted at a greater role for Gendry in the final season, which is great news, considering he pretty much spent the last four seasons rowing a boat.

“He’s sort of been a slow burner, hasn’t he?” the 30-year-old actor admits. “For the first few seasons, I was getting itchy feet for more of a purpose for him, because he was mostly just serving as a foil for Arya. But even with those scenes, there are little nuggets that are dropped that are quite subtle.
“As the years go on, his potential significance [has become] more and more apparent, and potential is an important word,” he continues.
“There’s a lot of elements of his character and his parentage that make him potentially powerful or dangerous, and he’s constantly learning more about himself. It’s almost impossible to know where he’s going to go now, based on both his ‘political’ clout, if he ever learns who he is, and his personality.”
We’re looking forward to seeing how things play out for Jon Snow. Kit Harington, who plays Jon, recently married co-star Rose Leslie in a romantic Scottish ceremony. Will his character Jon get the same happy ending? Only time will tell.

Meanwhile, Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) described filming as a “mammoth task” during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
The actress says reading her final script was “surreal,” telling the host the finale “is incredible.”
Seriously. We. Can’t. WAIT!
