Trend Alert: The Waist Pack | Miss FQ

Seen from heights of runway to the depths of Parisian street style… The fanny pack is back.

To anyone born in the nineties, the mere sighting of this notorious item featured in their parent’s holiday albums would have, for certain, induced repulsion. Kind of like that time that image resurfaced of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

It goes by many names; the waist pack, the bum bag, the belt bag and, more commonly in the United States, the fanny pack. In the interest of those who aren’t so fond of the latter, we’ll continue to refer to it as the ‘waist pack’ from now on. You’re welcome.

Unquestionably driven by the demand for more versatile and functional accessories, designers are investing in reinstating the gender-neutral waist pack to its former glory and coining it as the season’s ‘must-have’ item.

With gorpcore and athleisure taking over, it’s no surprise that its nostalgic sporty origins have seen the waist pack adopt new renditions through means of refined leathers, simple silhouettes, embellishments, motifs and artisan detail. We’re pegging this trend to be the next big thing.

But the question remains, are we even ready for it?
