Beyonce Formation World Tour.

The most slay-worthy costumes from Beyonce’s Formation tour

2 May 2016

Beyoncé’s Formation world tour kicked off last week in Miami and she killed it, to say the least.

The array of costumes, styled by Marni Senofonte, fell nothing short of spectacular, featuring outfits from Balmain, Roberto Cavalli, DSquared2, Gucci, Givenchy and Atsuko Kudo.

Beyoncé opened the show with a DSquared2 bodysuit design paired with a wide-brim hat and long-sleeved bustier. Having designed for Beyoncé earlier this year for her Super Bowl performance, DSquared2 designers Dan and Dean Caten said in a statement that they felt thrilled and honoured to be asked to work with the superstar for her Formation tour.

Another showstopper was the Victorian-inspired bodysuit designed by Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing. Made from French lace with a floral motif, the bodysuit was adorned with pearls, crystals and glass beads. The 30-year-old designer showcased his work on Instagram with the caption: “When Balmain Army Becomes Bey Army”.

Alongside the statement costumes were the “Boycott Beyoncé” t-shirts as official tour merch, a cheeky response to the backlash she received for her pro-Black Lives Matter message.

Aside from the costumes and music, fans were eager to hear any hint of the state of Beyonce’s marriage with Jay-Z after she seemingly called out her cheating husband in her surprise new album Lemonade that debuted the previous weekend. The superstar closed the first concert in her Formation World Tour by dedicating her song Halo ‘to my beautiful husband…I love you so much.’

So far the World Tour has only confirmed shows in North America and Europe, but a source told The Vine Australia that tour dates for Australasia are yet to be confirmed. Here’s hoping she makes her way to New Zealand, because our dose of Beyoncé is two years overdue – the last time she appeared on our shores was for her Mrs Carter world tour in 2014.
