Did the celebs deliver frightful costumes this Halloween? Over our dead body, they did.
Despite its Celtic origins, Halloween in the 21st-century is an all-American holiday where people take full of advantage of embodying their wildest dreams and alter egos. The iconic film Mean Girls (2004) said it best when protagonist Cady Heron attended her first Halloween party as a teenager having grown up in Africa:
“In the real world, Halloween is when kids dress up in costumes and beg for candy. In Girl World, Halloween is the one day a year when a girl can dress up like a total sl*t and no other girls can say anything else about it.”
Well, they’ll try. And while that may only be half-true, celebrity costume endeavours put the treat in trick-or-treating for us mere mortals half a world away. Because, well, they have the time and the resource on hand to go as detailed as imaginable (and we can’t get enough!).
