Our favourite street style trends from New York Fashion Week 2019

Vibrant colours and patterns reigned supreme, and tie-dye isn’t going anywhere.

New York Fashion Week kicked things off for the Spring 2020 womenswear shows, and as always we’re turning our eyes to what was happening on the street. Attendees’ clothing choices are consistently just as influential as the runway (if not more so) when it comes to dictating trends for the season – providing inspiration that is, for the most part, grounded in the real world.

Check out some of our favourite street style trends below:

Summer brights

Super-saturated colours just feel right as the temperature heats up. At New York Fashion Week the look was all about slinky satins, tonal outfits and clashing hues.

Tie-dye

One of the biggest trends from the northern hemisphere’s “hot girl summer”, tie-dye isn’t going anywhere, appearing on the streets at NYFW.

Monochrome

Although colour is king, monochromatic dressing makes a strong case for spring – notably from expat Kiwi Georgia Fowler – as does the classic white tank top.

Bloom prints

Call it the Ganni effect, or maybe Miranda Priestly was right, regardless we love a floral print as the weather warms up – and a fresh tablecloth check too.

Pastels

From prim and proper to exuberantly sweet, pastels were one of our favourite trends on the street at NYFW.

Blue denim

Far from your standard 501s, the best denim at NYFW was oversized or updated with bold logos and distressed finishing (looks like the latter is definitely back).

Blazers

Fashion’s favourite garment right now, blazers in all shapes and sizes were everywhere at NYFW, from plaid to plush velvet and classic cream.
