Nothing sets your wanderlust alight quite like a runway wrap-up following the Resort presentations from the big fashion houses.
During the month of May, world renowned fashion houses take to the runways in far-flung destinations to present their Resort (or Cruise) collections. With autumn/winter fashion weeks long gone and spring/summer still a good four months away, the presentations keep the fashion calendar abuzz and appeal to consumers’ perpetual need for, well, newness.
Some designers opt for look books or campaigns to showcase their ‘holiday’ or ‘in-between season’ collections in place of a runway, while others go to extreme lengths, facilitating full-scale, no-expenses-spared extravaganzas, flying some 400+ guests to remote locations.
In the early days of Resort collections, the capsules would be packed with vacation wear providing key items to live your best luxe life on holiday. But in modern times, consideration is made to those who may not necessarily go on holiday, rather choosing to travel all year round and spanning multiple climates. Hence why we’re seeing the likes of leather, fur and outerwear having such a presence in the collections – it’s no longer strictly poolside chic.
“It’s a reflection of our collective desire for seasonless style too, and that’s exactly what Resort delivers,” reads an article by Highsnobiety.
For 2019, highlights came by way of Gucci’s haunted collection situated in the South of France, Chanel’s nautical presentation upon a custom landlocked cruise liner, and Dior’s tribute to escaramuzas, Mexico’s female rodeo.
