Looking polished and fashion-forward whilst braving the winds of the Wellington region or the cold depths of Dunedin was near impossible — before now.

Faux fur, PVC coated leather and high-shine down jackets were the heroes among New York Fashion Week goers.

Casting our minds back to this time last year, teddy coats and white boots were everywhere when combat boots and ugly boots were at their height of their head-turning. Fast-forward 12 months and, for the most part, the ugly sneaker is sported less frequently on fashion’s tastemakers with boots in snakeskin, scrunch suede or pumps with statement socks worn en masse.

But not to worry. If you’ve invested in the ironically Dad-like trainer, there’s still plenty of time to get your wear’s worth. They still, unapologetically, go with everything. Even bike pants. Also worn ironically.

There are plenty of prints and colours to go around, only this time in retro tones with textured plaids and florals likened to upholstery and haberdashery. Think grandma’s bach lounge suite meets luxe?

In other words, before you buy another linen shirt during the end of summer sale, consider cashing in on some hidden gems from your local op-shop and make winter dressing great again.
