From Bella Hadid and Kim Kardashian, to Giovanna Engelbert and Chiara Ferragni, these are our team’s best dressed peeps from the year that was…

“I’m forever fangirling over fashion editor Giovanna Engelbert’s (nee Battaglia) style – she’s OTT, timeless, unexpected and simple all at the same time. I’m literally obsessed. You’ll know what I mean when you see this look from NYFW, captured by FQ’s man-on-the-ground Sam Lee. All of the above and more, right?!”

“In a grim year for American politics, at least we can reflect on Michelle Obama’s sartorial choices in a positive light. The master of feminine power dressing, Michelle finishes her second term as the first lady in major fashion moments such as this custom Gucci gown worn to the Kennedy Centre Honours ceremony. “

“Olivia Palermo‘s street style getups are regularly my definition of perfection. A white tee, midi skirt, tan heels and half-my-face-is-covered, reflective sunglasses? That’s summer lovin’ if I ever saw it! She can do no wrong and I’ve loved seeing her pattern-clashing, texture-mixing, refined and wonderfully feminine outfits this year.”

“My person for 2016 would have to be Kim K on the cover of Vogue Australia; not even so much for what she is wearing but the styling is so undone and perfect, she has natural makeup on and her hair is all messy-hair-don’t-care. She looks perfectly undone and this was the first time I had seen her in a fashionable way, normally she’s not a fashion icon of mine, but this cover changed everything for me.”

“For me this is a no-brainer. It took me five seconds to think of my favourite look of 2016… Bella Hadid at the GQ Men of the year event. Bella wears Hugo Boss and #slays. I feel like it’s all the little details contributing to the astonishing wider look. From the subtle boning through the waist and over the hips to extenuate her figure, to the stunning blush/nude shade of the gown, not to mention the simple styling of the hair, make-up and jewellery. She looks classic, elegant and sexy. Its everything I could dream for and more!”

“I’ve always considered her style a bit too kooky for my taste, but when I scroll through my ‘liked’ photos on Instagram, Chiara Ferragni’s face appears A LOT. There’s definitely a theme and that theme is satin slips at night, distressed denim during the day. But right now, probably because it’s 5:07pm on the last day of work, what’s really speaking to me is this Hawaiian shirt and high-waisted bikini combo.”

“For me, everything is in the quality of the material they the garments are made of. Alexander Gilkes definitely follows this ethos. I admire his classic style because he knows what suits him and he doesn’t bow to obvious fashion travesties. Definitely modern elegance. Just like me.”
– Marcel Gull, Fashion Quarterly and Miss FQ Creative Director
