A recap: Jess Quinn & Miss FQ’s Unlimited Spirit journey with Nike

15 August 2016

We want you to reach your unlimited potential!

Week 4 update

Jess:

Firstly, a huge congratulations to Val for winning Silver after so much hard work and dedication. What an intense final!

This last week of unleashing my unlimited potential has been my best week yet, I feel so much stronger in just 4 weeks. Obviously I’m not ready to dead lift 100kgs or run a marathon but I feel more motivated than ever to reach my goals.

Our final NTC training on Saturday was so much fun, if you saw the MissFQ Snapchat you would’ve got a taste of the excitement. It is such a cool experience being amongst top athletes as well as everyday people trying to improve their fitness, encouraging each other to unleash their potential and ultimately, be limitless (or as I would say, Limbitless)

The most important thing I’ve learnt is that you are only in competition with yourself. That’s what finding your unlimited potential is all about – it’s that moment where you feel like you can’t go any further but you do one more rep than you did the last week and you realise, you can go further. It’s not about doing more reps than the person next to you, it’s about believing in yourself and realising that your only limit is you.

Where to from here for me? Even though I’m out of running action for at least 4 weeks due to my shin splints, I’m not giving up on my goal to run 10km by December. I’m currently running 600m at a time so the dream is certainly a big one but my mind is still set on achieving it. For now, I am increasing the intensity of my training, continuing to focus on my glute strength (booty gains!!) and overall fitness so when I am recovered I will be ready to hit the ground running! My schedule each week will include workout from my NTC app 2-3 days a week, weight & endurance training 2-3 days a week as well as a recovery day.

If you want to keep up with my journey you can follow me on:

Skye:

Val though! What an incredible woman and a phenomenal achievement. But she’s not the only chick who has inspired me during this incredibly rewarding four-week-long journey; huge props to Jess Quinn who from week to week has been really made me realise my own Unlimited Spirit.

For those of you who watched our Miss FQ Snapchat (@missfq) takeover on Saturday at the final NTC workout you would have seen how motivating and positive her attitude is – that’s a girl who just loves to achieve, whatever that achievement might be for her. She’s a lovely person who never fails to waiver in her strength despite everything she’s been through. If that doesn’t make you want to get up and go, I don’t know what will!

On a personal level, I’ve definitely realised that it’s not about other people and comparing your own achievements to their goals. It’s about you.

Whether you want to aim for 10km (go, Jess!) or you just want to workout a couple of times a week to feel that burn, get those endorphins pumping and then be over and done with (go, me!), you do you.

Week 3 update

Jess:

How is it the last week of our 4 week challenge already? Time sure does fly when you’re having fun. This past week has been my best week by far. I managed to do three morning weight sessions as well a few cardio sessions, NTC Pilates on Thursday and NTC on Saturday (which nearly killed me!!!). I must admit I’m feeling a bit sore today but I’m so motivated to keep up with my training.

NTC on Saturday was the toughest one yet being cardio based. I’ve always struggled with cardio because I’m still working on my stability with the blade, so once I add speed and movement, with jump squats and burpees, I often struggle to keep up. I decided to take things at my own pace ultimately surprising myself by how well I was able to keep up.

At the start of this challenge I didn’t know how far I’d be able to come in 4 weeks but I’m blown away by how much strength I’ve gained, particularly in my glutes!

I am beyond excited to fully discover my Unlimited Potential at the final NTC this weekend. I must admit, I’m a little bit sad the challenge is coming to an end but it has definitely helped me realise just how much I’m capable of when I set my mind to it. Come join me this weekend!

Skye:

If you’re one of those people who thinks Pilates, like yoga, is easy, you’ll be made to reconsider when you do the NTC Pilates class on Thursdays at NTC Auckland. Trust me, I was one of those people. I thought it was going to be a piece of (really healthy) cake but when I went to get out of bed the next day every muscle in my body was incredibly sore. Don’t get me wrong, it was an I-feel-good-because-I-workout-like-a-girlboss sore, but I felt muscles I didn’t even know I had. Srsly.

I have to admit that the class itself is actually totally doable. For everyone. By that I mean if I can do it, you can do it. And if you don’t live in Auckland/are too busy having regular lunch dates on Thursdays at 1pm, you can take part in the same workout on the NTC app. Under ‘Strength’ is a workout called ‘Core Strength’ – you’re welcome.

It’s a great class to take part in with a friend because you don’t look like a sweaty mess afterwards so an activewear-wearing lunch post-workout is a must.

With that said, this is our fourth and final week of the Unlimited Spirit challenge and to end on a high NTC Auckland is coming together at an event this Saturday to celebrate NZ’s golden girl, Valerie Adams. Join us for a 1 hour NTC power workout and celebrate the journey with us. You can register here – and get your BFF to register too!

Week 2 update

Jess:

Two weeks in to the four week challenge & I can see some booty gains!!!

Unfortunately another hectic week last week meant I didn’t fit in as many workouts as I usually would which was frustrating but I had to listen to my body and make sure I didn’t completely burn myself out.

NTC at Auckland University on Saturday was the perfect combination of sweat and fun! We ran through three circuits; abs, cardio and strength. It was tough but I already felt slightly stronger. It’s crazy how quickly you start noticing your strength building. My biggest achievement was attempting a one legged burpee. Usually I’ll sit burpees out but I decided to give it a go on one leg and it worked pretty well! Must be that glute strength kicking in!

For the week ahead I’ve made sure I don’t overbook myself with work and Limbitless commitments so I can really focus on my training. My morning gym sessions have been non-existent for the past week or so as I catch up on some much needed rest but starting 5.30am Monday morning I’ll be back! Aiming for four early gym sessions this week, alternating weights and cardio, as well as some evening sessions using the NTC app.

I’ve been following Valerie Adams on her build up to the Olympics, her dedication is so inspiring. This week I’m going to push harder, squat lower, hold longer and feel that burn! Come join us at NTC this weekend and push your own limits!

Skye:

By now I’d normally be reporting on a super slack week, blaming my lack of movement on my cycle or something like that, but I’m not. Want to know why? Because there really is no excuse if you’ve downloaded the NTC app.

The trick, I’ve figured, is to make sure the NTC app is situated between my two social media vices (read: dangerous obsessions) Instagram and Snapchat on my phone’s homescreen. That way I can’t ignore it. It’s the best kind of guilt a girl could have! Don’t judge me, k?

I tried two workouts this week: ‘Activation Station’, a moderately intense workout that lasts only 15 minutes and ‘Extend Your Range’ which is a core-focused mobility workout. I can’t tell you enough how great the variation and timing of these workouts are! I ticked the box of working out twice and I worked hard while doing so because if you’re only exercising for a short while you may as well go hard for the 15 minute duration. That’s how my crazy mind works anyway.

Plus, neither workout requires any equipment. Ideal for a girl who considers activewear to be ‘gym equipment.’

I am going to do a NTC pilates workout with Jess this week; should be fun to try something new, plus she’s like my ultimate fitness inspo right now. Maybe this week I’ll try as hard as she does… #goals

Week 1 update

Jess:

Week 1 of Unleashing my Unlimited Potential is done and boy can I feel my glutes! I made the decision to challenge them, to build power & strength – I have seriously begun that this week. I got a head start and began last Saturday with my first NTC workout inspired by how Valerie Adams works out – I was not prepared for how hard she goes!! I pushed myself to my limits, and I’m still feeling the burn.

My week ended up being jam packed with work, meetings and photoshoots so I didn’t train as much as I would have liked but I made sure I did something every day even if it was a simple walk, or a glute & ab workout from my NTC app before bed, then I went along to NTC at Auckland Uni with 100 others over the weekend. It was the best workout I’ve done, we moved constantly for 45 minutes, so it’s fair to say I’m feeling it today – but it’s a good sore! From jump squats, to lunges, to high knees and fast feet, that booty was feeling the burn! What I love about NTC is everyone encouraging each other. In one room there are athletes who train everyday, if not twice a day, to people who are new to training, yet we’re all sweating just as much as each other and having fun while we do it. I often find there is an exercise which I can’t do due to my leg, so I change it up to suit me. It’s cool to be in an environment where you feel you can do that, at the end of the day you’re only competing against yourself.

I’m so excited for this week, I’m going to push myself further and get back to training everyday. My goal is to do at least 3 workouts from the NTC app, 3 days of cardio and NTC on Saturday! Check back next week to see how if I achieved this week’s goal & come sweat it out with me at NTC this weekend!

Skye:

Last week felt like the longest eveeer. I was super busy writing, Snapchatting and Instagramming for Miss FQ and trying to step up my fitness game at the same time – no mean feat for a girl who considered watching Netflix a hobby.

Overall, I’m pretty proud of my efforts. I played a game of indoor netball on Monday and attempted the NTC Basic Burner workout on Saturday, as per the app’s instructions. How did it know I needed to start at a ‘beginner’ level?

But in all seriousness even my boyfriend’s been shocked at my efforts to go from zero to 100(ish (more like 50)) real quick!

Olympics coverage and hype is everywhere at the moment, and seeing a Kiwi athlete like Valerie Adams work towards her throw for gold is super inspiring don’t you agree? So with that said I‘m definitely going to push myself harder this week and head along to NTC at Auckland Uni on Saturday morning. Join me?

We want you to reach your unlimited potential!

Val’s been on a four year journey and in four weeks’ time it’ll come down to one moment, one gold, one goal.

Jess Quinn and Miss FQ’s Skye Ross are challenging themselves to a four-week training programme in the lead up to Valerie Adam’s road to the Olympic finals and you can take part, too!

Four weeks isn’t a long time, but it’s long enough to reach a goal and to make a change in your fitness game. We’re challenging you to push yourself – while Jess and Skye do the same – to strive towards a goal, to sweat and hurt and #justdoit.

NTC-challenge

You don’t need an expensive PT or a gym membership; you’ve got your ultimate personal trainer in your pocket – the free Nike+ Training Club app!

The new and improved NTC app has over 100+ workouts, offers clear instructions for every move and expert guidance from Nike Master Trainers, and allows you to create your own personalised training plan to help you get fitter, faster, and stronger than ever.

We know, we know… we’re all busy. But there’s really no excuse. You can still take part even if your goal is as simple as doing two 15 minute NTC workouts each week.

Jess’ goal:

“Along with working on my fitness levels, I’m going to be focusing on my glutes. I really want to build them up as a lot of the motion and power you get when you run comes from your glutes, so for them to be strong is crucial. I love the “Better Butt 2.0″ workout in the NTC app, you seriously feel the burn & it’s only 15 minutes. Hello booty gains!!”

Skye’s goal:

“I’m slim but I’m most definitely not strong. And if I’m being completely honest, fitness hasn’t been a priority for me in a very long time. Why? Because I use work as an excuse. So my goal is to stop my lack-of-exercise guilt by doing 2-3 NTC workouts a week. I plan on using the app and hopefully I’ll get along to Auckland’s NTC studio a couple of times to mix it up and have a trainer push me to my unlimited potential. Here goes…”

To get on your way to become a fitter, stronger you simply download the Nike Training Club app from the app store. To unleash your Unlimited Potential, create your own 4 week training plan and register here to join us at NTC Live classes http://swoo.sh/1IPteW3
