Rihanna’s Met Gala look
This is a work of art and frankly, if you muck it up, it’ll look intentional.

1. Pick up a few fabric remnants or cut up some old red hued shirts, trousers – whatever you can find – and cut into discs.
2. We’d recommend wearing a red satin nightie as your base then getting a separate long rectangle of fabric that’s fairly starchy (ie. it’s not soft and limber) approximately 50cm wide x 5 metres.
3. Run two gather stitches through the centre and pull until it’s ruched – or fold and glue (remember making fans in school? Yeah, use that technique) and 3D it to the max.
4. Hot glue gun your discs of various other fabrics over it and wrap around your torso leaving the excess length to dangle.
5. Run a top knot, some SERIOUS pink blush, red stilettos and get your Bad Gal Riri self to the party.

P.S. This one is a bit out-the-gate so don’t expect everyone to recognise it straight away. Unless of course your squad is high fashuuuun, then go right ahead.

Kesha’s “praying” look
Kesha made a comeback this year with a new sound and a fresh look. Wait, did we say fresh? She’s actually more laden in glitter than ever.

1. Break out the crimper.
2. Buy some nipple pasties.
3. SMOTHER your body in glitter and offset with four or five different choker designs around your neck. Multiple colours are preferred.
4. It won’t matter what you wear on your bottom half because believe us, no one will notice.

Frida Kahlo
This costume is stunning and timeless, but shows that you don’t take yourself too seriously as you rock that monobrow. It might seem like we’re taking the mick but really, Frida was an icon that shaped fashion today and was the definition of an artist.

1. Mix in plenty of floral prints, big earrings, plenty of rings, hair up with plenty of flowers and a bright lip.
2. When it comes to choosing which pieces to wear, think Boho meets Victorian on a porch somewhere catching the afternoon sun. Yep, that kind of mood.

The costumes that will look good on you and your gals. Nothing gives you Insta cred faster than a squad pic in coordinated costumes.  Amiright?

Beyoncé’s pregnancy & twin announcements
At the start of Feb, Queen B announced she was pregnant with twins in the chicest way poss. By wearing a green mesh veil, blue satin shorties, a burgundy bra and propped herself against a flower wall. Simply glorious.

1. If you’re feeling body confident this will be a quick and easy pull together. Otherwise ramp up the volume by getting a few metres of purple floral fabric and wrap yourself right up with a couple of baby dolls in your arms.
2. Definitely use this as an opportunity to rework that floral crown you made when the “Day of the Dead” theme was in its prime circa 2014.

Handmaids
Blessed be the fruit, will this one look cracking in a group setting. Imagine you all there, in your red ensembles and white little bonnets. If it wasn’t so epic it’d be spooky.

These are actually readily available to purchase all over the internet but if you’re pressed for cash, you can source any kind of red maxi dress (or curtain, or tablecloth), some brown boots, a white bonnet and call it a day. Praised be.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s
Now you may think this one is a standalone costume, and it is, but it shouldn’t be dismissed as a group costume because it packs some serious class when done in volume. Trust us. The iconic Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s is a classic for a reason.

1. Wear a LBD paired with a regal high bun cinched in with a tiara.
2. Add black sunglasses, a pearl necklace,
black pumps, black long gloves and a takeaway coffee cup for good measure.

You’ll be the height of sophistication. Just prepare for handsome suitors to be refilling that coffee cup all night.

This category is for those of you who are time poor, or poor in general and need to perform a miracle. We’ve all been here too many times before!

Pink tank, white tulle skirt, blonde wavy locks and a big grin. While Carrie had oh-so-many fabulous looks, this one is iconic, quick and easy #phew

Cash Me Ousside Girl
The Dr.Phil ‘How bow dah’ girl Danielle Bregoli stretched her 15 minutes of fame to roughly 10 million followers and an almost rap career.

1. Source a long super sleek dark red wig if you can, or if you already have lengthy locks – lucky you! Get them super smooth and straight.
2. Slap on some BIG hoops and a gold chain.
3. Wear a tight black spaghetti strap crop top with a clashing white t-shirt bra underneath and throw on some grey wash jeans.
4. Complete the look with some ghetto heels and sassy pout.

Princess Charlotte having a tantrum
Possibly the cutest – and funniest – moment of 2017 was when Princess Charlotte, at the tender age of  (then) three , cried and threw herself to the ground during the royal family tour through Hamburg. 

1. To recreate, wear a pink dress  – ideally with sleeves.
2. Pair with red Mary Jane shoes (or ballet flats as a last resort) and pop a couple of red bow clips in your hair for the final touch.

Here’s another cheeky costume for you fashion lovers out there.

1. Channel this fashion legend by trawling the op shop layering plenty of colour, texture and so many accessories your arms will fall off.
2. The most important accessory? You have to source the perfect glasses to complete the look or it will all be for nothing and you’ll be looking more Mrs Doubtfire than debonair.
