Benee Laneway festival 2020

Everything you need to know about Laneway Festival 2020

21 January 2020

The countdown is on!

The sun is out, the music is loud and it’s nearly time for one of our favourite events of the summer – St Jerome’s Laneway Festival. Here’s what you need to know for the 2020 edition…

Kicking off the the first long-weekend of the year, Auckland Anniversary Weekend offers some reprieve after returning back to the 9-5 grind. The annual inner-city Laneway Festival, held at Auckland’s Albert Park, is a day filled with epic tunes, even better eats and street-style inspo galore.

We all know there is nothing worse than getting to any festival or concert venue and being unprepared or even worse, uninformed. Time is precious at a festival and we are here to make sure your day goes off without a hitch, from who’s playing to what food is on offer, the festy essentials you need to bring and everything in between.

Read on, as we’ve got the full rundown from what to pack in your handbag to which bands to check out.

What to get organised in the lead up to Laneway

Your outfit. If you’re anything like us, this will be a fundamental factor as to whether you enjoy yourself or not. If you haven’t sussed anything yet – or everything you own currently doesn’t align with your alter-festy-ego (we feel you) then look no further than our festival outfit guide to what to wear. Or check out our Laneway festival style archives for a little more inspo.

Your festival beauty. Dedicate time the day before to tan your limbs, find the perfect make up look and decide on your pre-event hair prep. Will you go for glitter? A pop of colour for the eyes? Or will you opt for a more pared back, dewy look? Oh, and don’t forget the SPF! We won’t be leaving the house without applying our Hawaiian Tropic Duo Defence SPF50 suncare range for face and body – it smells great, has a very high protection factor and also contains a protective anti-pollution layer that goes beyond UV protection to help prevent premature skin aging from the sun and pollution.

What to get organised on the day of the festival

Your pre-gig shindig: Gates open at 11.30am which gives you plenty of time to use the morning to unite the crew over brunch and a spritz or two.  You can set the all important good times in motion, snap a few  ‘grams and discuss the plan of attack AKA which artists on which stages and at what times.

Refer to the timetable below (reading from the bottom, up):

Getting there: Book your taxi, your Uber or your sober driver and get yourself to Laneway. But don’t forget the essentials, including:

  • Ticket
  • ID
  • Cash
  • Phone (fully charged)
  • Refillable clear water bottle
  • Hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen – always good to opt for a Skin Cancer Foundation-approved one if you can, such as Hawaiian Tropic’s Duo Defence SPF 50+ range.
  • Positive attitude
  • Dancing shoes

Things to suss at Laneway

How you’re going pay for everything: The festival will have cash bar sales at the venue, but EFTPOS, Visa and Mastercard will all be accepted!

Food: The foodie lineup for Laneway has just been announced and it’s safe to say we are excited. Alongside the epic foodie line up there will be bars throughout the venue and water stations. Make sure to stay well fed and watered to avoid festival faux-pas on the day. We are most looking forward to a cheeky Duck Island ice-cream in the sunshine. Oh and there will be plenty of vegan friendly and gluten-free options too!
