Kenzo x H&M

Everything that happened at the Kenzo x H&M NYC launch party

21 October 2016

This party was CRAZY GOOD. And FQ was there – read on to get the full lowdown:

We’d been promised something “fun” by Kenzo creative directors Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, but the Kenzo x H&M launch party in New York City well and truly blew the socks off everyone in the room.

Combining dance, beatboxing, whistlers, a live string orchestra, a brass band and a drumming corps, the resulting performance was a feast for the eyes and ears, as Kenzo-clad models glided, strutted, spun and skipped past the crowd to a remixed version of Charles Wright’s Express Yourself.

The collection itself is equally fun in all of it’s colour-popping glory (as we’ve seen from the lookbook and campaign images), but up close, you’ll see the pieces are also beautifully made and surprisingly wearable.

No detail has been overlooked – whether that be fabric choice (the sweaters and tees are made from organic cotton; shirts, tops and skirts are silk) or well-thought out ideas like reversible dresses and jackets. Sticking them on the backs of some seriously impressive dancers not only made the clothes come to life, it made them infinitely more cool, too.

Fashion show merged straight into party zone, as celebrities, VIPs and media all joined in during the finale – and didn’t leave the dance floor from that point on, including during Ice Cube’s guest performance.

Stars of the campaign, including Chance the Rapper, Iman, Chloë Sevigny, Rosario Dawson, Suboi and activist Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, sat front row alongside Elizabeth Olsen, Lupita Nyong’o, Halsey, Joe Jonas, Sienna Miller, Charli XCX, and director Spike Jonze, and also weren’t shy about busting out a few dance moves of their own. Chloe Sevigny may or may not have still been going when the Step Up-style dance battles commenced… we’re just sayin’.

The H&M x Kenzo collection hits stores (including New Zealand’s newly opened Sylvia Park location) on November 3.
