Hint: It starts with a ‘C’.
Already one of the most coveted labels in the fashion industry, Chanel has now also taken out the title of having the world’s most-Googled shoe.
According to Who What Wear, the brands’ flat espadrilles averages between 10,000 to 100,000 Google searches every month, making them the most-searched shoe on the planet. How’s that for popularity?!
And at a closer look, it’s easy to see how the Chanel espadrilles attained this status already being a cult fashion item and a staple in the wardrobes of celebrities and models like Kendall Jenner, Jessica Biel and Alessandra Ambrosio. Other fan favourites include street style stars and influencers who have deemed the shoe a ‘gram-worthy addition to any wardrobe.
Since the shoe first debuted on the 2011 Spring Summer Chanel runway – c/o Karl Lagerfield and his team – it’s continued to hold its popular status over the last seven years. Now the shoe exists in a variety of colours, patterns and details aside from the standard cream, black lambskin and grosgain combo, and is considered a handy transitional piece to have in the wardrobe. And if you’re really a fan why not consider creating your own personal collection?
The Chanel espadrille beat out other iconic designer shoes for the title of the most-Googled shoe, including the classic Christian Louboutin Pigalle pump and the Manolo Blahnik Hangisi made famous on the likes of Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City.
A pair of Chanel espadrilles will set you back at least $950 NZD, so before you commit make sure it won’t break the bank. Alternatively, they say “copying is the sincerest form of flattery” so why not adopt a different take on the flat espadrille with some of the more affordable options below?
