High-quality innovative designs impressed at the 12th annual iD International Emerging Designer Awards held at Dunedin’s Town Hall.
The award show, hosted by Carol Hirschfield, showcased the work of 38 international designer’s collections from ten countries around the world.
The diversity between collections and designers impressed the prestigious panel of judges which included guest of honour, New Zealand-born, UK-based designer Emilia Wickstead; founder of the emerging designer platform Not Just A Label, Stefan Siegel; Australian fashion writer Patty Huntington; and Kiwi designers Kate Sylvester, Margarita Robertson and Tanya Carlson.
24-year-old Australian Jordan Anderson took home the top prize of $6000 for his collection ‘Global Citizen’, which tells the story of the designer’s creative journey during an exchange program visiting 14 countries across the world. The innovative 90s-inspired sportswear collection was created using hi-tech sports fabric and was inspired by English artist Ian Davenport’s gravity-defying drip paintings.
“There was so much diversity between the collections,” says Emilia Wickstead. “What really stood out with Jordan was that he was ready to take the next step. His collection was fresh and inspiring and delivered on everything we were looking for.”
Third place winner, 22-year-old Australian Stephanie Frig, showcased her flair for design with her bold and colourful collection, which highlighted her exceptional use of fabric technology. Frig was awarded an internship placement with Emilia Wickstead in London, and $2000 to support her career in fashion design.
