Audrey Hepburn

Audrey Hepburn’s Givenchy love story

21 July 2015

As if the Milan and Paris couture shows weren’t enough to have us feeling some serious FOMO these past couple of weeks, the eagerly anticipated photographic exhibition Audrey Hepburn: Portraits of an Icon has just been unveiled at London’s National Portrait Gallery to rave reviews.

Running until October 18 and featuring more than seventy photographs from the requisite to the rarely seen, the exhibition promises a captivating glimpse into Hepburn’s extraordinary life and career. If you’re lucky enough to be heading that way sometime soon, move this to the top of your to-do list.

As for the rest of us, #southernhemisphereproblems amiright? But in these trying times we must ask ourselves, WWAD? Ever the optimist, she’d get resourceful, darling. And so we did, creating our own ‘portrait gallery’ in honour of this most beloved movie star, humanitarian, and of course, enduring style icon.

That’s right, you’ll know Audrey (or ‘Audrey style’) as synonymous with the little black dress, and the black turtleneck, and ballet flats. What you may not know is that she was actually a lifelong muse to one of the greatest couturiers of the twentieth century. At the Givenchy couture show last month, all eyes might have been on Riccardo Tisci’s model of the moment, Kendall Jenner. But before Riccardo had Kendall (or Kim, or Beyoncé), Hubert de Givenchy had Audrey Hepburn.

The adoration was mutual from day one. Audrey favoured Givenchy’s creations on and off the screen, and was frequently seen with the OG (that’s Original Givenchy) designer right by her side.

This gallery is a tribute to that most fashionable friendship…
