Synethesia by Perfume Playground

An immersive, live exhibition that explores the perceptual phenomenon of synesthesia (where things like sounds and letters are seen as colours), fragrance artist Samantha Copland has created six sensory worlds that engage through colour, sound, space and the senses, with perfumes infused with cannabis science – don’t worry, it’s 100% legal. Exploring what it is to craft a sense of home, this exhibition features work from the Migrant Women’s Group, as well as cross-cultural social enterprise Companion Co-design, who create furniture and textile objects in partnership with migrants and former refugees.

Alongside the exhibition, on Saturday October 12 there is the Migrant Craft Market, celebrating the culture of Muslim communities, with craft and art for sale from the Migrant Women’s Group, Companion Co-design, Al-Madinah School and Zayad College for Girls.

Recent Painting by Claudia Jowitt

Rising star Claudia Jowitt is renowned for her sculptural, dynamic paintings and sensitive use of colour. Her work is best experienced in person, so we recommend heading along to Melanie Roger Gallery for this exhibition of her newest body of work. Claudia will be giving an artist talk October 19 at 11am.

With a long and successful career spanning fashion and art photography, Russ Flatt’s new exhibition Hell Bent explores the relationship between LGBTI+ culture, evangelical Christianity, and the Māori and Pacific communities.

Moana Currents: Dressing Aotearoa Now

We’ve covered this event before, but it’s well worth drawing your attention to again. The Moana Currents: Dressing Aotearoa Now exhibition explores what Aotearoa style means today, and celebrates how our Māori and Pasifika heritage has shaped the way Kiwis dress. Curated by Doris de Pont and Dan Ahwa, it features pieces from artists and designers including King Kapisi, Dru Douglas (Lumai), Kiri Nathan, Emilia Wickstead, Karen Walker, and Keva Rands (Papa).

For those who want to go in depth, Doris de Pont will be leading a curator tour of the exhibition on October 12 at 2pm.
