There’s more than one reason as to why we love draping ourselves in activewear even when we’re not working up a sweat.
Whether it’s the comfort, the style or the effortless cool that comes with wearing activewear, we’re all about mastering this look. The trend has taken off and is in full fashion force; from influencers to our favourite celebs, those spotted in the latest in workout wear, tend to do it in style.
From Kendall Jenner to Gigi Hadid, working out has never looked so good, so it’s no wonder we want to recreate their sports-luxe looks for ourselves. But mastering this off-duty style isn’t as easy as it seems, so we spoke to activewear expert Rachael Challinor, founder of fitness wear store People Like Us, for her tips on nailing it.
3 key activewear pieces your wardrobe needs according to Rachael:
The statement legging
“The versatile biker short has become this seasons activewear must-have. A mid-length thigh makes this your ultimate performance gear piece, as well as being the fashion choice of celebrities as seen on Kim Kardashian and Emily Ratajkowski, this athleisure staple can do no wrong. Chuck on with a tee for everyday uni chic or pair up with a crisp white shirt, oversized black blazer and black boot for that extra touch of cool,” says Rachael.
The statement legging
“Liquid-like leggings are not only an on-trend fitness wardrobe staple, but these leggings also work just as well on the street as in a HITT class,” she says. “Throw them on with a vintage tee to channel that effortless off duty model look. Add a blazer and these luminous leggings will keep your look elevated and chic – you’re all set to meet your boyfriends parents!”
The mesh tee
Rachael says: “No longer left in the 80’s mesh is back! This long sleeve mesh tee is a perfect throw over post-workout giving maximum breathability and will add an edge to your basic black leggings. Take this top from barre class to bar hopping by teaming it with a hint of black bralette, boyfriend jeans and a classic heel.”
